Neuroscience / Neurointerventional Advanced Practice Provider-Day Position
Job Requirements
Join a multifaceted team that covers neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurointerventional radiology, and elective neurosurgery cases. oThe Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) primary role will cover the neurosurgery / neurointerventional radiology day shifts, oThe APP will be trained to cover all aspects of the neuroscience team. oHelp ensure full coverage of the neuroscience clinical schedule. oThe APP will have the opportunity to train and may provide cross coverage to other APP service lines within the same specialty separate from your Required Shifts, as defined inSchedule 2(Cross-Coverage Shifts). Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's collaboration agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. In collaboration with the physician care team, the APP will: oProvide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventivehealth care services to critically ill patients. oObtain medical histories, examine patients, daily rounds,orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments. oCommunicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families. oAdminister therapeutic procedures such as placement of intracranial monitoring systems, extra ventricular drains, VP shunt taps, suturing, and woundcare. oInstructs and counsels patients and families. oMay first assist in the operating room when necessary. Essential Skills include: oHighly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters oAbility to handle and triage multiple priorities, work independently, take initiative in achieving expected results, and handle confidential information. oDemonstrate competence and skill in required tasks and procedures. oDemonstrate skills in making effective decisions, quality improvement activities, problem solving, crisis management, organizing work and meeting deadlines, attention to detail and follow through, resource management, ability to work successfully with diverse types of individuals including management, clinical staff, and the public. Meets all team and organizational deadlines for task requests, project/ initiative submissions, evaluations, and compliance items. Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Maryland Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols. Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training, education, and mentorship of other APPs, and specific service line and APP events and meetings. Participates in APP educational and other learning opportunities as they arise. Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures. oDemonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty. oCompletes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Complete 32 hours of trauma related CME and 16 hours of stroke related CME. oPerforms according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols. oMaintains a procedurecomplication rate less than the national average. Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training and education of other APPs, specific team events, etc.
Work Experience
Minimum Qualifications: - PAs: Bachelors degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physicians Assistants are required. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
- NPs: Bachelors degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- One year of neurosurgery or neurocritical care experience is preferred.
- Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Healths Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS certification is required. ATLS certification preferred.
