Populations Served: Neonate (Birth - 6 Months), Pediatric (6 Months - 12 years), Adolescent (13 - 17 years), Adult (18 - 64 years), Geriatric (65+ years)
Job Summary The Registration Representative facilitates an efficient and professional registration process through the attainment of demographic and financial information, via face-to-face registration, that is pertinent to appropriate reimbursement and statistical analysis. This position will require registration in multiple systems as well as familiarity with financial and authorization requirements for relevant setting. Communicates appropriately with the medical center staff, physicians, physician offices, community members, families, and community agencies.
Working Environment: General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to dust/particulate matter. May be exposed to extreme conditions, (i.e. heat or cold). May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. May be scheduled as needed, including overtime. Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.

Does not blame or negatively represent any other department, organization, or employee associated with SJMC to customers. Adheres to departmental standards of response time to customer requests and follows-up accordingly without need for customers to re-contact the department. COMMUNICATIONS: Protects the privacy and confidentiality of patients andemployees. Establishes and maintains a positive working rapport with all physicians and hospital staff. Working as a team member, demonstrates a positive, supportiveand helpful attitude towards patients, families, visitors, co-workers and physicians.Communicates appropriately and respectfully with the medical center staff, physicians, physicians offices, community members, families and community agencies. Respects patients' rights. Acts as a liaison with patients/families in the waiting area. PERFORMS ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS: Responsible for maintaining complete and accurate accounts to ensure database integrity and timely claims processing.Exhibits good organizational and time management skills, which contribute to themanagement and efficient operation of the department. Appropriately utilizes officeequipment such as email, scanners and fax. REGISTERS PATIENTS: Understands and follows downtime registration andscheduling system(s) procedures. Understands the usage of registration system(s) and the system(s) security and interface. Collects all monies due at the time of service. May work with a variety of system(s)to register and verify eligibility and assist in the chart preparation for patients. TRAINING: Assists in training new employees. Acts as a model of the registration process when training, consistently supports trainee and gives feedback to the Trainer and/or Manager.
Work Experience
Education * High School Diploma or GED (Required) Vocational / Technical Degree: Business or Secretarial Coursework (Preferred) Certification / Licensure / Registration Not Applicable No Certification and Licensure Requirements required or preferred
Experience and Skills *0 - 1 year Knowledge of physician office/clinical care center routines and a basic understanding of the organization, procedures and terminology. (Required) 2 - 4 years Knowledge of physician office billing, charge entry, billing programs, procedures and terminology preferred. (Preferred)

Physical Requirements and Physical Demands *Adequate hearing to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Hears alarms/telephone/tape recorder/normal speaking voice. *Must be able to accurately document pertinent information either by writing or typing. *Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone. *Must be able to distinguish colors. *Must be able to perform repetitive tasks/motion. *Must have good manual dexterity. *Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
